In search of inspiration Becky Oldfield (working as a “Lost and Found’ Design)
is a ‘compulsive rummager’. She is fascinated how reclaimed traditional
materials can be combined with contemporary fabrics to create original and
evocative new products. She trained at Goldsmiths and has acquired a local
network of friends, colleagues and fellow artists who regularly source ‘discarded’ materials
for her to work with. She says she enjoys “giving things a second chance”.
The results, described as ‘contemporary nostalgia’ have broad
appeal across a wide range of products.

Why old Union Jacks, one might ask? Obviously because they
have drama as pieces of design but, also, they represent time-honoured
craftsmanship. Nowadays, as Becky rightly says, they’d most likely
be extruded in their thousands and probably made of plastic. Each piece
she makes is accompanied by its known history to date – a sort of
contemporary provenance designed to create modern day collectables with
an historic component all of their own.
